Event Proposal

Welcome to BOLD Coffee & Books! We are excited to now be accepting proposals for readings, book launches, and other events.

Our Mission: At BOLD Coffee & Books, we strive to offer premier coffee drinks, varied and inclusive book selections, unique events, and a community-building space.

We do all this by:

Sourcing high-quality beans and roasting services pressed and served by well-trained baristas
Featuring national books by and about historically underrepresented people, books by local (Oregon and Southwest Washington) authors looking to build positive social change, and writing materials for writers of all levels
Hosting events featuring authors, musicians, and artists from Portland’s robust creative community
Showcasing and selling art by BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled, immigrant, or otherwise marginalized artists
Utilizing comfortable and accessible furnishings and decor to create a welcoming space
Providing meeting space for local organizations working to influence positive societal change

Event Hours:

Fridays: 7:00–8:30 p.m.

Saturdays: 7:00–8:30 p.m.

Saturday morning children's storytime: 10:00–10:30 a.m.

Note: We will also host writing workshops and publishing classes! Those fall under different terms and conditions. Please contact boldcoffeeandbooks@gmail.com if you would like to teach a class in our space.

At BOLD, we strive to uplift books by and about people from marginalized communities, acknowledging that "marginalized" can have many meanings. How does your book/do your books fit the BOLD mission? (required): This field is required

Thank you for submitting your proposal! We will reach out to you when we have reviewed it. We strive to review event proposals in a timely manner. During busy times, it may take three weeks for us to respond. Thank you for your patience.

Terms and Conditions:
At BOLD, we strive to showcase as many authors and books that uplift people from marginalized communities as possible. This means we are open to booking events with authors from both independent and traditional publishing paths and everything in between, with all sizes of print runs, and with varying degrees of notoriety. You're welcome here!

We prioritize books by and about people who are BIPOC, AAPI, disabled/differently abled, low SES, and more. The more we know about how your book fits with this mission, the better we can serve you.

We hope your book sells well at your event, and we know you do too. To be sure the event will have the greatest chance for success, we need to vet that your book is professionally produced. Thank you for understanding and respecting this process.

We will review your materials and reach out if we think we are a good fit for hosting your event. If all parties agree, the following terms will apply:

Book Sales:During the event, we will manage your book sales. If we are not already carrying your book, please bring enough copies to sell. Per industry standard, BOLD's percentage is 40% of the book price.

Pricing:Our events are free! That said, for the Friday and Saturday evening events, we require a $50 sales guarantee. If you help spread the word about your event and attendees buy drinks, food, and/or books during the event, this is easily met. So invite your crowd, and we'll bring ours, and everybody wins!

All readings and book launches are open to the public.

BOLD Coffee & Books is a safe space. We do not condone or tolerate hate speech of any kind. If questionable content is presented within the event, we reserve the right to stop the event.
